Triangle Divorce Lawyers, a firm with locations in Raleigh and across North Carolina, has pledged to give the proceeds from their client consultations on Nov. 7 and 8 to North East Wake Backpack Buddies. This non-profit organization gives children who face food insecurity access to snacks and meals on the weekend through a take-home food program.
Started in 2006 by Rolesville Baptist Church, North East Wake Backpack Buddies has grown to serve 18 schools in Raleigh. A typical weekend menu is composed of items such as canned entrees or vegetables, noodle packages like mac-and-cheese, fresh fruit, and individual snack packages.
“We try to provide three square meals, plus enough snacks to get them through the weekend,” says Lena Gott of North East Wake Backpack Buddies. “A lot of people think about these types of things around the holidays, but for us this is something we do all year long.”
North East Wake Backpack Buddies creates weekly weekend packages for approximately 400 children across Raleigh. The organization relies on volunteers to assemble the bags and community members to donate food or funding to their program.
